MRA SABAH SEALS STRATEGIC COLLABORATION WITH SDCC SABAH IN DISASTER MANAGEMENT

KOTA KINABALU, 23 Jun 2025

The Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) Sabah has attended a strategic discussion session with the State Disaster Command Centre (SDCC) to discuss the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) scheduled to take place on 2 July 2025. This MoU will be officiated by the YAB Chief Minister of Sabah and marks an important step in strengthening the Sabah state disaster management system.

Through the discussions, Sabah MRA will be formally involved in the SDCC structure as a strategic partner NGO, in line with the state government's efforts to standardize disaster management operations throughout Sabah. This role will allow MRA to contribute expertise, experience and resources to enhance disaster preparedness and response effectiveness.

As an NGO recognized by NADMA, MRA Sabah emphasizes its commitment to continue to comply with all guidelines outlined in NADMA Directive No. 1 and ensure that aid coordination is carried out in an organized, professional and impactful manner.

Interestingly, MRA Sabah and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (PBSM) will be the first two NGOs to sign an MoU with SDCC. This signing is in recognition of the important role of NGOs in the disaster management system and is expected to open up space for closer collaboration between NGOs and government agencies.

MRA Sabah expresses its appreciation to SDCC for the trust given and expresses its willingness to work closely with all government agencies and other NGOs in delivering humanitarian assistance to the people of Sabah, especially during emergency and disaster situations.

With this collaboration, MRA Sabah hopes that all forms of assistance can be mobilized more quickly, in an organized manner and reach those who really need it.
