Alhamdulillah, the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) Kedah successfully organised the Bengkel Khatan Komuniti 2025 (Community Circumcision Workshop) on 19 July 2025. The programme welcomed 29 participants from a total of 35 registered, including five spirited medical students from UniSHAMS who actively engaged throughout the sessions.
This unique programme was conducted across two picturesque locations—separated by a calm irrigation canal and framed by lush green paddy fields, with the iconic Mount Jerai standing tall in the background. The tranquil setting amplified the spirit of learning and service.
The event began with registration and breakfast, followed by welcoming remarks and the official launch by Mr. Saiful, Chairman of MRA Kedah. He also delivered an introductory talk, sharing practical insights and experiences from previous community circumcision initiatives, which set the tone for the day.
Participants were then guided through seven hands-on training stations, rotating every 20 minutes in small groups. Each station covered vital aspects necessary for a safe and structured field circumcision programme:
1. Programme Setup & Layout
2. Participant Registration & Screening
3. Patient Management & Anaesthesia / Circumcision Techniques & Complications
4. Infection Control & Sterilisation
5. Instrument Cleaning Procedures
6. Recovery Area & Wound Care
7. Pharmacy & Post-Circumcision Medication
To enhance engagement, an interactive quiz session was held where nine lucky participants won exciting prizes, bringing learning and fun together. The workshop concluded with a certificate presentation, group photo session, and lunch. The event officially ended around 3:30 PM.
MRA Kedah extends its deepest appreciation to all facilitators, organising committee members, and participants for their energy, commitment, and drive in making this programme a success. We hope that the knowledge gained will continue to benefit the wider community, especially in building capacity for safer and more systematic field circumcision efforts.
