EMPOWERING KAMPUNG PETA: MRA JOHOR CHAMPIONS DISASTER PREPAREDNESS FOR ORANG ASLI COMMUNITIES
Natural disasters can occur without warning, often leaving vulnerable communities at risk. Recognising the urgent need for preparedness, the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) Johor, through its Sekolah Rimba project, recently conducted a three-day Disaster Management Training for the Orang Asli community of Kampung Peta. The training took place from 18th to 20th July 2025 at Endau-Rompin National Park in Mersing.
This proactive initiative brought together multiple stakeholders in a united effort to build a resilient and informed local community. The program focused on disaster preparedness, emergency response, and risk reduction, equipping residents of Kampung Peta with essential knowledge and tools. The following agencies and partners contributed to the success of the program:
Participating Agencies and Partners:
· Department of Social Welfare (JKM) Mersing
· Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba) Mersing
· District Health Office (PKD) Mersing/Jemaluang
· Johor National Park Corporation (Endau-Rompin Peta)

· Village Community Management Council (JPKK) & Kampung Peta Orang Asli Community
· UTHM Pagoh Biodiversity Course

As part of the initiative, 400 Ready-to-Eat (RTE) food packs were distributed to the Orang Asli community to serve as emergency provisions for future disasters. This reflects MRA’s commitment to building community resilience and supporting vulnerable populations in practical, sustainable ways.
In addition to the training, a certificate and transcript presentation ceremony was held for graduates of Sekolah Rimba Series 1.0. Preparations for Sekolah Rimba 2.0 are currently underway, with updates to be shared through MRA’s official channels.
At MRA, we believe in the power of community, preparedness, and compassion. Together, we can create safer environments and uplift those in need.
“The best man is he who is best to mankind.”
