From Kitchen To Heart: Borneo's Culinary Heritage Brightens MRA Sabah Infaq Kasih Ramadan
KOTA KINABALU, 26 March 2025 – In conjunction with the
blessed month of Ramadan, the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) Sabah has carried
out a variety of iftar meal distribution programs, featuring a rich array of
traditional dishes from Borneo’s diverse communities.
Among the local delicacies shared were berobok (corn
rice porridge), tiyula itum (black
soup), and bubur lambuk – dishes that symbolise the cultural richness and
heritage flavours of Sabah’s multi-ethnic society. This program was organised
in collaboration with Masjid Sri Ranggu, Madrasah Al-Istiqomah, and Universiti
Malaysia Sabah (UMS) through Kolej Kediaman Tun Mustapha (KKTM).
The highlight of this initiative was the Bubur Lambuk Infaq Kasih Ramadan MRA Sabah 2025/1446H Program, which was
successfully held on 20 and 21 March 2025. A total of 1,200 packs of bubur
lambuk were distributed to communities across Kota Kinabalu, with the active
involvement of MRA Sabah volunteers, the Malaysia Airlines/MASWING Islamic
Welfare Committee, and UMS students.
In total, more than 2,000 sets of iftar meals have been
distributed across Sabah throughout this Ramadan. Beyond aiding those in need,
the program also served as a platform to foster unity, compassion, and harmony
among people of various races and religions.
MRA Sabah believes that such initiatives not only
support the underprivileged but also elevate Borneo’s food heritage as a
unifying force – from the kitchen to the heart, touching lives and illuminating
the spirit of Ramadan.
