Fostering Inclusion Through Sign Language and Empathy: MRA x ExxonMobil Event at AEON Mall AU2
AEON Mall AU2 Setiawangsa came alive with empathy, knowledge, and inclusion as the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA), in collaboration with the ExxonMobil Recreation Club (ERC), hosted the Basic Sign Language Workshop & Explorace on the 5th of July 2025.
The event welcomed members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (OKU Pendengaran) community as special guests, creating an environment where learning met meaningful interaction. The primary objective was to introduce participants to the fundamentals of Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM) while raising awareness about the importance of inclusive communication.
Participants enthusiastically learned basic sign language, delivered patriotic messages through signed performances, and enjoyed direct engagement with the OKU community in a relaxed and joyful setting.
The program continued with a fun-filled activity, designed to test teamwork, understanding, and creativity – turning learning into a shared experience.
The most memorable moment came during lunchtime, where ExxonMobil staff and the OKU community shared stories, laughter, and connection – breaking barriers and building genuine human bridges.
MRA extends heartfelt thanks and congratulations to everyone involved in making the event a success, including our partner Negeri Sembilan Deaf Association (NESDA) and Persatuan Kebajikan OKU Kawasan Seputeh (PKOPS).
As we were reminded throughout the day:
“Communication is not just about voice – it’s about the sincerity to be understood.”
