United Nations (UN) Day Malaysia 2024
The United Nations (UN) Day 2024,
themed "Our Common Future," was a momentous occasion celebrated by
the United Nations country team in Malaysia, in collaboration with
representatives from the Malaysian government, civil society, the private sector,
youth organizations, and the diplomatic community. This significant event saw a
gathering of diverse groups coming together to reflect on and emphasize the
shared vision for a better, more inclusive world. The celebration was marked by
insightful discussions on how we can collectively work toward a sustainable and
prosperous future for all.
YBhg Dato' Ahmad Rozian Abd
Ghani, Deputy Secretary-General (Bilateral Affairs) of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, delivered an inspiring speech that underscored the urgent call for a
future characterized by shared peace, dignity, and prosperity. His address
emphasized the importance of collaboration at all levels—national, regional,
and global—to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
and to build a world that is just, inclusive, and resilient for all people,
regardless of their background or circumstances.
As one of the recipients of the
Yayasan MyUNSDG grant, the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) had the honor of being
part of this important event. MRA took this opportunity to showcase its ongoing
efforts in supporting and upholding the rights of underserved and marginalized
communities in Malaysia. The agency's team shared details about its initiatives
aimed at improving access to healthcare, education, and other essential
services for vulnerable populations such as the Orang Asli, B40 communities,
and stateless individuals who often face systemic barriers to basic rights and
opportunities.
MRA extends its heartfelt
appreciation to the attendees who took the time to visit our booth and engage
with our team. Their interest and support in learning more about MRA's work
serve as a reminder of the collective power we have in addressing social inequalities
and fostering positive change within society. Through collaborative efforts, we
can continue to create meaningful impact and contribute toward the realization
of the SDGs in Malaysia.
UN Day, which is celebrated every
year on October 24, commemorates the historic entry into force of the UN
Charter in 1945. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the shared values
that unite nations around the world, amplifying our common agenda and reaffirming
the purposes and principles of the UN Charter that have guided humanity for the
past 79 years. The observance of UN Day encourages individuals and
organizations alike to reflect on the progress we have made toward global
peace, security, and development, while also recognizing the challenges that
remain ahead. It is an opportunity for everyone to renew their commitment to
building a better world for future generations, where no one is left behind.
As we look to the future, events
like UN Day remind us of the importance of working together in solidarity and
unity, embracing our collective responsibility to shape a world where
sustainable development, human rights, and social justice are upheld for all
people, everywhere. MRA remains dedicated to supporting this vision and will
continue to collaborate with local and international partners to bring about
positive and lasting change for those in need.
