International Initiative

THAILAND

Southern Thailand, encompassing 14 provinces on the Malay Peninsula, is known for its stunning beaches, islands and diverse culture. However, since its transfer of sovereignty to Thailand’s suzerainty after the Bangkok Treaty in 1909, the region has been marred with chaos as the Malay Muslim community pushed for autonomy which will preserve their religion, culture, language, writing, education etc. Plus, the poverty rate has been traditionally high among the locals contributed by political differences being manipulated in education and employment affairs. Humanitarian relief efforts by NGOs have helped to relieve the hardships faced by the locals, providing them with platforms to improve their working skills as well as assisting their essential needs such as food, clothes, groceries and so on.

Clothes

Children from underprivileged families were presented with new clothes to lift their spirit and to improve their lifestyle. This initiative also helps to lessen the burden of parents in which their salaries can be used to purchase essentials for their children.

Ramadan Assistance for Orphans

MRA has been assisting orphans in many countries so they could continue living with affection, care and attention and the initiative in Southern Thailand is one of them. To cheer the orphans for the upcoming Hari Raya, MRA gifted the orphans with new Raya outfits. The children were also treated with communal Iftar prepared jointly by local NGO and MRA.
