International Initiative

SYRIA

The 13-year civil war has been affecting the civilians with many of them forced to cross the border to save themselves. The remaining became displaced in their own country as continuous bombings and ground attacks turned their homes into rubbles while destroying many economic and industrial related structures, causing them to be unemployed. According to UNHCR, more than 7.4 million Syrians are still displaced in their country with 2.3 million still residing in camps. While more than 6 million people had left the country.

Shelter

Based on The International for Migration (IOM), over 80,000 people who were forced to flee the violence are sleeping under the trees or in open areas. Thus, shelter is of utmost importance for their survival to protect them from the weather and to preserve their human rights. Tents were distributed to the displaced community to help them to settle down at proper locations. Shelter units were also built in Northern Aleppo and Idlib for the most vulnerable IDPs

Bread

Breads were distributed to the internally displaced communities living in temporary shelters as many families lost their homes and jobs due to the prolonged civil war, leaving them without sustenance. The initiative also focused on the issue of hunger and malnutrition among children, pregnant women and expecting mothers.

Medical

Thousands of displaced Syrians suffer from limited access to the medical care services as a result of the huge gap between the capacity of health centers and the huge numbers of patients. Many healthcare facilities have been completely or partially destroyed due to the intense aerial bombings and gunfights for years. To address this problem, restoration and rehabilitation were made for healthcare facilities that can be salvaged. Necessary equipment and qualified personnel were also supplied to enable people to receive treatment again.

Ramadan

For IDP families living in conflict zones like Syria, Ramadan is just another month but for us, Ramadan is a month that must be made memorable for them even during wars. Initiatives like food baskets, iftar, suhoor and Syawal aid were organized for the IDPs to encourage them to carry out fasting and for them to feel the excitement of Ramadan and Syawal.
