SRI LANKA

Relief Since :
2009
Eight years have passed since the culmination of the armed conflict between the Sri Lankan government and militants and yet the Muslim minority community in Sri Lanka remain to live in restrained conditions.

As soon as the conflict ended it was estimated that 250,000 people became refugees inhabiting temporary camps that caused a severe humanitarian crisis in the past few months.

This was worsened by the already present 200,000 refugees, most of them Muslims whom were chased out by the Tamil Tigers from Northern Sri Lanka in the 1990s.

Heavy responsibilities and costs need to be shouldered by the government in order to establish the relocation process if the refugees.

Conditions in the relocation areas in the north are extremely concerning especially the lack of coverage by the media and government limiting aid bodies in reaching the aforementioned areas.
